dad001
This is my dad when I was nine !

My uncle had given me a Coronet Cub
camera and Selochrome film for my birthday
He showed me how to use it
but he took this picture with
his own 35mm Robot camera...it looked
      very complicated to me !

I used my film up right away being 8 shots
on 828 film. We developed it in aunties'
kitchen, using her pudding bowl to hold
     the chemicals.

My then uncle taught me basic printing,
the wonder of seing the image appear through
the murky brown developer has never left me.

That was more than 60 years ago !

I do have a digital camera & there are many things it can do with ease that  my
old film cameras can't         However the magic is just not there!

My current camera is a Contax G2 rangefinder 35mm, aquired to replace
an old Hasselblad that was becoming increasingly difficult to carry about
I also use a Ziess Ikonta or Rolleicord when I need a bigger negative.
My usual film is Iford HP5 developed in home mixed Pyro developers
but for 35mm I am using more FP4 largely due to the influence of Bill Martindale
of Cumbria

My photography will always be monochrome I see in black and white
and always try to visualise what the final print could look like.

I am a member of Rochdale Camera Club,  there is no finer experience for an older photographer than to help someone new to our craft.

My membership of the Lancashire Monochrome Group is important to me
It is a centre of excellence for monochrome photography whether from film
or digital origins

I enjoy comunicating with other photographers using the internet, currently
I swap prints, negatives and often amusing chatter with a good friends in Cumbria
Penzance and New Zealand.     If you would like to exchange monochrome
drop me a mail and we will take it from there..

So 60 odd years on from the Coronet I continue to enjoy my photography.
The change of format to 35mm has widened my horizons again as well as lightening the load  on my complaining joints.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my site as much as I have in creating it.
